Going with a charismatic candidate or the promotion of the “popular” employee may seem natural, but is that the right choice? Hogan's evaluations examine the dangerous side of charisma.
Disadvantage n ยฐ 1: an easy path to professional exhaustion
Charisma can be a way to use printing management in job interviews and the workplace. Impressive management is a conscious or subconscious process in which people try to influence the perceptions of others. The workers focused more on the presentation of a strong and sympathetic character devoting more time to it than their responsibilities, which can seriously harm productivity and production, with a major drawback to a workforce with damaging ramifications.
The search for social acceptance in the workplace has always had a rather vague finish line and this has been improved in an environment deeply influenced by social media. Consequently, without a clear indicator, charismatic employees can easily be placed at a higher risk of highlighting and find themselves lower in their roles. This scenario has often just felt less confident in their skills or its ability to finish their work. Therefore, they believe that they must justify their place within a team and can look too far to rely on the sympathetic or charismatic features for which they can be rewarded.
Disadvantage n ยฐ 2: Operational failure
Having charisma is not a synonym of good judgment, nor the moral qualities necessary to successfully meet the challenges of a role. Charismatic employees can be convincing, but that makes no sense if they have nothing to say. Likewise, candidates can attract recruiters and the recruitment of managers with their charisma, but can fall flat in the role because they may not be able to perform at the expected level.
Charismatic managers and managers often have problems recognizing that they do not have all the answers, which is necessary for anyone offering leadership to a complex business. Consequently, they are less willing to ask and listen to advice, which can harm any organization, because comments or critical ideas of their team could be easily rejected.
Disadvantage n ยฐ 3: Inequalities in the workplace and team resentment
Professional success is marked by significant disparities. Not everyone starts their trip from the same starting point, and not all paths lead to the same destination. While some set up the company's scale to achieve considerable wealth, others are faced with the harsh reality to fight to join both ends in roles offering barely habitable wages. In this sense, personality can have a significant impact on the success of the career, because charismatic workers are often considered more “leader”, despite their real references which can be lacking. In addition, the prioritization of the members of the charismatic team for promotions on ethics or work performance can easily lead to resentment, as many employees can feel undervalued or neglected by these choices.
A charismatic worker with solid interpersonal skills can indeed be an excellent asset, but must be weighed alongside other skills necessary to do the work according to the desired standard of the company.
Disadvantage n ยฐ 4: they overpromised and subdospositive
In an effort to accept, in particular with their superiors, charismatic individuals tend to set unrealistic objectives and expectations. This is a natural trend for people who wish to win service within their short -term organization without worrying about the long -term consequences. Sometimes things will go as planned and they will be the first to tap in the back. However, it is much more likely that expectations are not satisfied, and these people will not be quick to blame those around them without accepting their own failures.
Whether intentional or not, charismatic people cannot help promise more than they can deliver realistically. The problem is that they are politically wise individuals who are competent to dodge repeatedly responsible. This behavior may not be durable in the long term, but the charismatic tends to achieve this and to use their charm to get another job where they can start the cycle with a clean slate.
